As a trusted immigration advisory firm, we at Immigration Chambers are committed to helping international students successfully navigate the evolving landscape of New Zealand’s visa processes. With the introduction of Immigration New Zealand’s (INZ) enhanced Immigration Online system, significant changes are being rolled out, especially for New Zealand student visa applicants from 18 August 2025. In this comprehensive guide, we explain everything you need to know about the transition to the enhanced system for international student visas and how to prepare effectively.
Understanding the Enhanced Immigration Online System (ADEPT)
INZ is progressively shifting visa application processes to a digital platform known as ADEPT (Advanced Digital Experience Platform Tool) under the 7-year Our Future Services initiative. The core objective is to deliver a faster, simpler, and more transparent experience for applicants, while empowering them with self-service capabilities.
Several visa categories, including New Zealand Visitor Visas, Accredited Employer Work Visas, and Permanent Resident Visas New Zealand have already been migrated to the new platform. Now, International Student Visas New Zealand are next in line.
Key Transition Date: 18 August 2025
From 18 August 2025, all international student visa applications must be submitted through the enhanced online platform. The transition applies to the following student visas New Zealand categories:
- Fee-Paying Student Visa
- English Language Studies Visa
- Exchange Student Visa
- Pathway Student Visa
- NZ Government Scholarship Student Visa
- Foreign Government Supported Student Visa
If you begin your application on or after this date, you will automatically be redirected to the new system.
Action Plan for Applicants Before and After 18 August 2025
Before 18 August 2025
- You may submit applications using the current online system.
- All applications submitted before 17 August will still be processed normally.
- You will retain the ability to upload documents and respond to INZ requests via the old system.
After 18 August 2025
- Any draft applications not submitted by 17 August can still be finalized and submitted by 17 September 2025.
- Post 17 September, unsubmitted draft applications will be automatically deleted.
- You will need to start afresh using the new application form if you miss this deadline.
Important Considerations During Peak Application Period
INZ has cautioned that this change coincides with a peak period for student visa New Zealand submissions. We strongly advise:
- Do not wait for the new form launch to apply.
- Submit your application at least 3 months ahead of your planned travel to avoid processing delays.
- Ensure that your supporting documentation is complete and accurate to prevent unnecessary delays or declines.

Enhanced User Experience and Digital Transparency
The transition to the enhanced platform aims to deliver:
