Overview of Policy Enhancements
Effective from 6 July 2025, New Zealand will implement significant changes to its New Zealand Visitor Visa policies for citizens of Pacific Islands Forum countries. These adjustments aim to strengthen regional ties and facilitate easier travel for Pacific nationals.
Key Changes to New Zealand Visitor Visa Regulations
Extended Multi-Entry Visa Validity
- Duration: Visitor visas will now be valid for 24 months, doubling the previous 12-month period.
- Multiple Entries: Holders can enter and exit New Zealand multiple times within this 24-month timeframe.
- Stay Limits:
- Up to 6 months in any 12-month period.
- No more than 9 months within an 18-month period.
Applicants must still meet standard visa requirements. Visas may be issued for shorter durations if the applicant’s passport is nearing expiration or other concerns arise.
Introduction of Visa-Free Travel from Australia
Starting November 2025, a 12-month trial will allow eligible Pacific Islands Forum country passport holders to travel visa-free from Australia to New Zealand.
- Eligibility:
- Must hold a valid Australian visitor, work, student, or family visa.
- Must obtain a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) prior to travel.
- Duration: Permitted stay of up to 3 months in New Zealand.
Note: This trial excludes individuals transiting through Australia without entering the country.
